Librarian I - Outreach and Adult Services

Due to a retirement, the RPL is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible librarian to focus on adult services and innovative outreach initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for creating an inclusive library experience for adults and teens, bringing library resources beyond our building through our RPL on Wheels book bike program, and supporting community partnerships.

You will plan and implement engaging adult programming, coordinate community outreach events, assist patrons with reference and readers' advisory services, curate compelling collections, and promote library services throughout Reading. We are looking for a self-starter with strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills. The ability to build collaborative relationships with community organizations, local businesses, and town departments is also essential.

Essential Functions

1. Direct User Services: Provides direct assistance to library users while supporting services to adults and teens as needed. Library services include reference, research, reader's advisory, and instruction in the use of materials, equipment, and technology.
2. Community Outreach: Plans and implements community outreach in collaboration with the Public Services Division Head, Assistant Library Director, and various town departments. This includes bringing library resources and events beyond the building to targeted segments of the population.
3. Book-Bike Coordination: Coordinates the RPL book-bike schedule and events.
4. Adult Programming: Plans, publicizes, and implements library programs for the public with a focus on adults.
5. Collection Management: Curates and manages the library's assigned adult collections.
6. Team Collaboration: Cooperates as a team member by providing customer service and general assistance at various public service desks.
7. External Collaboration: Works collaboratively to support school media specialists, town departments, businesses, community groups, and other organizations outside the library.
8. Public Relations Support: Supports the library's public relations efforts through activities including contributing to social media and website content, developing promotional materials, and creating displays.
9. Data-Driven Service Improvement: Proactively uses data, current resources, and critical analysis to continuously inform and improve all aspects of library services.
10. Policy Enforcement: Stays current on library and network policies and procedures. Informs library users of and enforces library policies.
11. Grant Management: As needed, prepares grant applications and oversees awarded grants.
12. Confidential Information Access: Maintains access to and handles confidential information appropriately

Qualifications

1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in any subject;
2. Master's Degree in Library and Information Science. Candidates in a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science program will be considered; and
3. One to two years of professional library experience; or
4. Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
