The Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, VT seeks a Youth Collection Development Librarian to help advance our mission of empowering community members to become lifelong learners. The Youth Collection Development Librarian serves as a subject expert for children and young adults and ensures that collections for youth ages 0-18 are current, diverse, inclusive and responsive to the community’s needs and interests. They are enthusiastic about youth literature and media, familiar with publishing trends and committed to equitable access to information and resources. They regularly collaborate with the Youth Programs and Outreach Librarian to offer Library instruction to visiting groups, and to create a welcoming physical space in the children’s Library. Working with the Head Circulation Librarian, they support new staff, substitutes, pages and volunteers on any work specific to youth areas. They work most of their hours at the Children’s Library circulation desk but are scheduled for specific times off the desk to focus on their other work. As part of their regular responsibilities, they open and close the Library, offer reference and readers’ advisory and are expected to have a thorough knowledge of all Library services. They must work well under pressure, performing multiple tasks efficiently.
 
MLS from an ALA accredited institution or four years of college and Vermont Library Certification preferred plus relevant library experience. The Youth Collection Development Librarian must have an excellent knowledge of current and emerging library best practices for youth of all ages, as well as a passion for youth literature. This position is 35 hours per week and requires some evening and Saturday hours. The starting pay is $23.43 per hour along with an excellent benefits package.
