Jericho Town Library Director Position
Jericho Center, Vermont, an idyllic community 15 miles outside of Burlington, is seeking a Library Director for the Jericho Town Library (JTL). The Library Director will be a town employee but will be hired by and responsible to the JTL Board of Trustees. The position is full-time at 38 hours per week and full benefits are included.
Qualifications and skills desired in the ideal candidate include:
A four-year college degree, preferably with a focus in Library Sciences or related field or a Certificate in Public Librarianship from the Vermont Department of Libraries (or intent to pursue.
At least two years of related experience
Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
Knowledge and experience with technology, including library management systems (familiarity with Koha, Clover, and/or Overdrive a plus)
Ability to prepare comprehensive monthly/yearly reports and budgets, present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form, as well as manage and evaluate library operations
Creativity to develop and implement existing and new programs and services to serve our community as a whole
Ability to foster, motivate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, staff, JTL volunteers, neighboring libraries, community groups, Town government, and the Board of Trustees
Ability to promote the use of the library by all members of the community and act as the library spokesperson in person and via social media
Ability to organize job responsibilities and work independently
Flexibility, creativity, energy and excellent interpersonal skills are a must. The Library Director is responsible for the administration, supervision and coordination of all activities of the library, establishing it as an integral part of the community, as well as carrying out the Policies adopted by the Library Board of Trustees.
Current salary is $29/hr at 38 hr a week.
Please note that Jericho Town Library is a historic building built in the 1820s that has not yet been brought up to modern accessibility standards. Accessibility is a priority of the Library Board of Trustees. As it stands now, the ability to walk up stairs and move freely around the somewhat crowded space is a requirement for this position.
