Come work in Hampstead! We are seeking a creative person for customer service at our front desk and for program planning for adults, working with our Programming Librarian. We are a small library in a southern NH town, close to the Massachusetts border. We serve a community of about 9000 people.
Library Assistant II Position
This position is part-time: Regular schedule is between 17 and 23 hours per week. Monday 9am- 1pm; Tuesday 2pm-8pm; Wednesday 5pm- 8pm; every other Saturday 8:30am-3:00pm; first Wednesday of every month 9:00am-12:00pm for in person staff meeting.
Salary starts at $23.40 per hour.
SCOPE OF WORK: Serve as front desk customer service. Provide technical and clerical support to patrons and fellow staff and provide library technical expertise that complements and expands availability of library services, focusing on adult programs. Provide information services to the community by facilitating access to library resources including preparing materials and services; circulating materials; assisting patrons; answering questions; assisting with programs and events; and organizing materials. This position shall report to the Director.
Major Duties:
- Uses automated library systems to circulate materials to library users; reserve materials; set up new patron accounts.
- Shelves materials; ensuring materials on shelves are in order.
- Helps patrons locate library materials or online information and assists them with digital media, computer skills, and interlibrary loans.
- Performs all opening and closing procedures as necessary.
- Creates patron information brochures.
- Assists with programs, focusing on adults, working closely with Adult Programming Librarian.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge and level of competency associated with some college. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the job, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:
Excellent customer service attitude. Interest and experience working with the public. Excellent computer skills and ability to adapt to new software programs and emerging technologies. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, patrons and volunteers. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes day, night and weekend hours as well as the ability to provide coverage for other shifts when available. Skill in the use of software such as Microsoft Office suite, Google email, Canva, internet browsers, and the ability to multitask.
Marketing skills and event planning experience are a plus.
